A Little Academy

"The work of the world is common as mud. Botched, it smears the hands, crumbles to dust. But the thing worth doing well done has a shape that satisfies, clean and evident. Greek amphoras for wine or oil, Hopi vases that held corn are put in museums but you know they were made to be used. The pitcher cries for water to carry and a person for work that is real."

From "To be of Use" by Marge Piercy

A Little Academy is dedicated to the cultivation of the imagination and the study of the archetypal arts for the sake of a world longing to be met with soul.

Consultation and Educational Programs

After 40 years as a psychotherapist and 25 years as a professor of psychology in university settings, I left the hallowed halls of traditional academia to deepen the range of my practice as psychotherapist and mentor. In addition to my practice of psychotherapy I provide consultation and mentorship to artists, psychotherapists, educators and other professionals. I facilitate professional seminars and study groups in Depth Psychology.

Archetypal Council for Psychotherapists

Depth Psychology is a psyche-centered approach to the practice of therapy. It requires a commitment to consciousness and a deep regard for the unconscious processes at work in the context of the therapeutic encounter. Archetypal council is an embodied and collaborative group approach to the psychoactive work of therapy and consultation. This approach to group consultation offers council members education in core ideas and practices of depth psychology, including transference/counter transference, the nature of the complex, dream work, and other imaginal approaches to psychotherapy. Individuals interested in joining a council should be prepared to encounter their own personal psychological material in the context of communal consultation.

Archetypal Council sessions occur once a month for three hours, or longer at the request of the group. Group membership ranges from 4 to 6 therapists.

If you are interested in individual or group consultation or mentorship, professional seminar or Archetypal Council, please indicate your interest by filling out and submitting the form on the Contact page or call George directly at (206) 860-8569.
